Picobrouwrij Alvinne Melchior

I’m now at the 10% mark here with the 5th of the 50 Beers to Try Before You Die, the Melchior.

Melchior is made with mustard seeds.  …Somehow.  I don’t really know the process, or much about beer.  I just drink them.  If you didn’t know what you were having, and don’t have a keen palette, you wouldn’t know that there was any mustard at all, which is good.  No one wants to drink a strong mustard flavored beer.  There is definitely something in it that can be identified as mustard though.

And it’s probably the chunky stuff you get at the bottom.  The (I assume) ground mustard seeds mean there’s quite a bit of solid settling at the bottom of the glass.  It’s worth trying a few sips, but the beer just isn’t good enough to warrant drinking the last few murky ounces.

The best thing going for it is that the flavor doesn’t betray the 11% ABV it’s packing.  But, the flavor that is there isn’t really worth exploring a full bottle of.  …Or four bottles, if you’re me and want to give each beer a fair go.
