Four Stages of Philosophy
This is for all the people who majored in philosophy in undergrad:
Stage 1: You feel excited because you’re learning fascinating new ideas.
Stage 2: You feel sad because you realize you don’t actually understand them.
Stage 3: You feel excited again, because you think you’ve finally really figured them out.
Stage 4: You feel depressed because yes, you have figured them out, and they mean your life is pointless.

As Steve Martin said: “With Philosophy you remember just enough to screw you up for the rest of your life. You study the important ethical questions: ‘Is it ok to yell movie in a crowded firehouse’. Religious questions: ‘Does the Pope shit in the woods’”
In realizing life’s pointlessness you are terrifyingly free.
Some realize they are free to impose meaning on the world through force.
Philosophy degree secure.
B has a great point. Recently, my mom was diagnosed with cancer, and I’ve already accepted the worst case scenario without much mental anguish.
Rule #1: everything dies. When you accept this and other basic “fundamentalities” (goin’ rogue with the language there) life gets real easy.
False. There are billions of people on Earth today who have never died. While the majority of the human population has died, a significant enough portion has never died that you cannot reach the conclusion that everything dies.
Also, non-living things don’t die either. Like rocks, or service partners.
If you conclude that life is pointless, you are no more free–you simply become a slave to your own desires instead of purpose or morality. Given our finite and mortal nature, we are all slaves to one thing or another.
Stage 2 = Hegel.
Stage 4 does not = Hegel.
BL1Y, Life is not pointless if you can get some good pussy once or twice a week. It makes it easier to fall asleep once you’ve had a babe for an hour in the sack.
I recommend you go to her place. That way, you can get up and go when you please and don’t have to entertain her in the morning, because when you sober up, she won’t look that good.
