Paddling Judge Disbarred

A Mobile County circuit judge was disbarred after claims of offering lighter sentences if defendants agreed to be paddled.  He plans to appeal the decision to the Alabama Supreme Court.

[State Senator Vivian Davis] Figures testified in Thomas’ criminal trial, telling the jury that the judge had called her to ask permission to paddle her son. She said that she gave Thomas permission.

She said that her son never told her that he was forced to drop his pants, as he later explained to investigators.

Herman Thomas was acquitted in October of charges that he sexually abused inmates.  He is now running for the Alabama state senate.
