A movie set to premier at the Tribeca Film Festival has been causing a stir in the queer community, especially with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). The movie, Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives is described as “a campy homage to the exploitation films” in which “a group of transgender women are violently beaten and left for dead,” but then “the violated vixens turn deadly divas.”
The movie actually sounds like it’d be kinda fun, but, GLAAD is sad:
The film, its title and its marketing misrepresent the lives of transgender women and use grotesque, exploitative depictions of violence against transgender women.
It’s a mother-fracking work of fiction! Of course it misrepresents things! Indiana Jones misrepresented archeology, Event Horizon misrepresented space travel, and The American President misrepresented the quality of women the POTUS can pick up on the job.
But, apparently to GLAAD, trannies must only be represented in a realistic manner, such as Lady Chablis in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, who portrayed herself in the film:
If I catch any of you bitches near him, honey, I want you to know you’ll have to deal with the Lady Chablis, the Doll, the Grand Empress, and my motherfucking ice pick.
So, ticked off trannies with knives is a misrepresentation, but a ticked-off tranny with an ice-pick is spot on. Good to know, will keep in mind.
PS: “Gay & Lesbian” isn’t really inclusive of transgendered people (most of whom are straight). Identity Fail.
